Saturday 9/28 9 am - 12 pm
Friday 10/4 6 pm - 9 pm

Learn:

To Create: bowls, cups, plates, vases and/or steins.

Polish your craft:

  • Base/wall thickness and control.

  • Understand how to attach handles to cups, mugs, and pitchers.

  • Sgraffito a technique where potters can put a layer of glaze or slip on a piece of pottery, let it dry, then use a pottery carving tool to scratch at it to show the base layer of color. Sgraffito derives from an Italian word meaning β€œto scratch.”

  • Use underglazes, underglaze transfers, and wax as decorating tools. Understand and use wax carving techniques.

  • Glazing for best results. Learn some unique and creative glazing techniques.

Prerequisites: Participants will need to know how to weigh out clay, wedge clay, basic pottery wheel use, how to center the clay, cone up/down, and create a simple cylinder.

Taught by: Nikki Moritz, a Sauk Centre resident with a passion for great pottery and many years of teaching experience.
