9/27 Intermediate Pottery - Wheel Throwing Series

Friday 9/27 6 pm - 9 pm
Saturday 9/28 9 am - 12 pm
Friday 10/4 6 pm - 9 pm
Learn:
To Create: bowls, cups, plates, vases and/or steins.
Polish your craft:
Base/wall thickness and control.
Understand how to attach handles to cups, mugs, and pitchers.
Sgraffito a technique where potters can put a layer of glaze or slip on a piece of pottery, let it dry, then use a pottery carving tool to scratch at it to show the base layer of color. Sgraffito derives from an Italian word meaning “to scratch.”
Use underglazes, underglaze transfers, and wax as decorating tools. Understand and use wax carving techniques.
Glazing for best results. Learn some unique and creative glazing techniques.
Prerequisites: Participants will need to know how to weigh out clay, wedge clay, basic pottery wheel use, how to center the clay, cone up/down, and create a simple cylinder.
Taught by: Nikki Moritz, a Sauk Centre resident with a passion for great pottery and many years of teaching experience.
