FAQs

What is the 510 Art Lab?

The 510 Art Lab is a vibrant makerspace that is a member-run, 501(c)3 organization. It's a creative haven where individuals can access space and equipment to pursue their artistic passions in an inclusive environment. Whether you're a seasoned artist looking for a studio or someone eager to explore various art forms alongside like-minded individuals, the 510 Art Lab offers an array of resources.

What art forms do you have there?

Currently, our facility is equipped for pottery, ceramics, stained glass, glass fusion, weaving, sewing, macrame, crochet, knitting, quilting, garment making, woodburning, painting, drawing, photography, colored pencils, Cricut projects, 3D printing, culinary arts, music, and events like poetry readings, concerts, and more.

When is the Lab open?

Our business hours are conveniently listed on our home page and kept up to date. Members enjoy round-the-clock access to our space and equipment, facilitated by a key fob system that includes safety features for overnight visits. Additionally, we regularly host events, classes, and pop-up shops, typically open to the public.

Can I bring pets?

While we understand the love for pets, for the safety and comfort of all members and their furry companions, we kindly request that animals do not accompany visitors to the Lab.

Does the 510 Art Lab have a governing board?

Yes, we have a dedicated volunteer board comprising local individuals passionate about the arts and community support. You can reach out to board members, including Pam Borgmann, Mike Disher, Gwen Kranz, Mark Kranz, Cara Lewis, and Roger Reinardy, via our email account.

Do I need a membership to attend a class or participate in an event?

No, classes and events listed on our website are open to all who register. While some classes are exclusive to members, these are not publicly listed.

What are the benefits of membership?

Membership grants access to our fully-equipped space, member only classes, free monthly events, art club participation options, along with discounts on classes, day passes, and gift certificates at varying levels. Beyond amenities, members have the opportunity to connect with fellow art enthusiasts, fostering a vibrant community of creativity.

Do I need to bring my own supplies?

Your membership includes a variety of equipment and tools in different areas.  We have a limited amount of supplies in each area and invite you to use the supplies as you are learning and exploring, however, we ask that you provide most of your own supplies.  We have clay and glass for stained glass and glass fusion for sale and can help you find reasonable priced supplies if you need help. Lockers are available for storing your art stash conveniently.

What are the responsibilities of a member?

As a member, your primary responsibility is to indulge in creativity while maintaining cleanliness and tidiness in the shared spaces. We may occasionally organize cleaning days or volunteer opportunities for members to participate in.

Can I bring something in to be repaired?

We do not currently offer an art repair service. If you made something here in a class, please contact us and we will try and help you find a solution.

Can I buy some of the art in the window?

Much of the art in our gallery space on the left hand window is for sale and made by our members. Stop in during our business hours (posted on the main page) to shop!

Is someone available to instruct me?

While we offer classes across various mediums and encourage member collaboration, the essence of the Art Lab lies in self-discovery and independent creation. We provide resources such as books, computers, smart TVs, art clubs, and hangout nights to facilitate learning and experimentation.

Can I bring friends & family?

Membership allows you to bring two children under 18 to create with you. Additionally, certain membership tiers include day passes for bringing guests. All guests must be accompanied by a member at all times. We welcome curious friends for tours—word-of-mouth is invaluable to us!

Can I just show up and create something?

While we primarily operate as a membership-based facility, we do offer various events and classes open to the public where individuals can come and experience our space. These events provide an opportunity to engage with our community and explore different art forms. Additionally, membership grants access to our facilities and equipment for independent use. To ensure the best experience for all, we kindly ask that individuals attend one of our events or classes or consider becoming a member. This helps us maintain a supportive and inclusive environment for our members and guests alike. Thank you for your understanding!

How do I donate items and supplies?

We sincerely appreciate the generosity of those wishing to contribute items to our space. To ensure that we can make the best use of donated items and maintain an organized environment for our members, we kindly request that you reach out to us prior to dropping off any donations. This allows us to discuss your donation and ensure it aligns with our current needs and storage capacity. Please feel free to contact us to coordinate your donation.
